It was quite saddening when I got the news that Amy Winehouse had passed this past Saturday. You can just imagine being on vacay and hearing such news. I realized that I didn't really take the time to process it, and although I'm dogged tired, I really wanted to take a few minutes and just dedicate this post in the remembrance of her. I remember when Back to Black first came out. Man, I think I played that CD OUT my sophomore year of college and even through the summer after. I think listening to her music you have to have an open mind. I love(d) her style, her vocals, the fact that her music had an old school feel to it (I'm talking OLLLDDDD school), and how relateable it was, even if it sound crazy.
Although autopsy reports indicated no evidence of foul play, I think we are all thinking that drugs and alcohol played a roll in her untimely death. Alcohol and drug addiction is sooo powerful and a deadly disease. If I could go inside of the minds of addicts and try to understand where it all resonates from I would ( I secretly think I want to become a psychologist- addiction specialist..if there's such a career.) It's no secret that Amy struggled publically with this disease, and I definitely think that she could have been saved from this. (For more info on Amy Winehouse's struggle with drugs, alcohol, and other health issues, please feel free to take it upon yourself and so research.)
Amy Winehouse was an extremely talented artist. There's no telling where this 27-year old Grammy-award winning artist would have been years from now. But I guess we will never know. May she rest in peace.
I wanted to share a couple of my favorite songs on her Back to Black album.
"LOVE IS A LOSING GAME"
"TEARS DRY ON THEIR OWN"
"JUST FRIENDS"
